'BY WHOSE STRIPES YE WERE HEALED' - EXPLAINED
'Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.' - 1 Peter 2 vs 24
Hello beautiful and dearly beloved of GOD in CHRIST JESUS. I'm so excited to bring this word of the LORD to you. This will correct a wrong use of the above stated Bible passage, of which for a long time now, it has been wrongly interpreted, understood and applied by many in the Church. Just hold on right where you are now and read. GOD bless you.
Our opening Scripture has for a long time now been explained to the Church as a supernatural provision from GOD for divine health for the Believer in CHRIST. Hence, many have held on to the belief that by JESUS' stripes during HIS crucifixion, they are being made healed of their bodily ailments. It's beautiful to trust the LORD JESUS for the provision of good and divine health, but Scriptures should not be taken out of context. A Bible teacher must learn to stay in the boundaries of context. Okay, let's see where our opening verse comes from;
'But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.' - Isaiah 53 vs 5 {KJV}
This was a prophecy made by the Prophet Isaiah. Remember, Isaiah prophesied about Israel. It's very important you note that. And now, Apostle Peter in His teaching, points the people back there, informing them that they have already been healed by JESUS' stripes. Okay. We will see now what this healing as used here is.
WHO WERE THE PEOPLE APOSTLE PETER WAS ADDRESSING IN THAT TEACHING?
Remember, Apostle Peter was a minister to the Jews, and He lived among the Jews, He carried out most of His ministry in the Jews' community, surrounding and environment. Here Apostle Peter was speaking to the Jewish Believers. Remember that Israel was a nation who rebelled continually against GOD, and strayed away from GOD as a result of their rebellion and many disobedience. Now Apostle Peter is informing the Jewish brethren that CHRIST has paid the price for their restoration back to GOD, He was letting them know that CHRIST has paid the price for their reconciliation back to GOD: this was what the Prophet Isaiah prophesied of, which we have read above. He prophesied about Israel been reconciled back to GOD by reason of the Messiah's sacrifice/stripes/sufferings. The Word "Healed" as seen in our opening passage and in that Prophecy of Isaiah does not connote physical healing from physical ailments, no! But it connotes "Restoration", "Reconciliation" back to GOD. - Selah. Now to further understand this, let's see the continuing verse of our opening passage so that we can get the idea properly;
'For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.' - 1 Peter 2 vs 25 {KJV}
You see it? This is the context in which Apostle Peter made that statement as seen in our opening Bible passage. In this verse 25, we see Him further emphasizing His statement, making it clear what He is talking about. He says they were as sheep going astray, but now they are returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of their souls, and that's JESUS. - Selah
So the statement "By HIS Stripes Ye Are Healed" simply means "By the LORD's sufferings in HIS crucifixion, the Jews have been restored back to GOD; It means that the Jews have been reconciled back to GOD. Now GOD is no longer angry with them, and they too can enjoy fellowship with GOD their Father in CHRIST JESUS. Hallelujah!
You see, this is the reason why many don't get the expected results of healing in their body, because they are hanging their faith on a faulty revelation. They always thought this portion of the Bible speaks of physical healing, so they anchor their faith on this portion of Scripture for health, and they don't get that health; many fall terribly sick despite their faith in the Word as they assume. This is because their faith is based on a wrong revelation, hence they will always experience the negative of their expectation. If the Revelation upon which you anchor your faith is the Truth of the Word, it will always produce the expected result(s). Doubtlessly!
GOD is with you.
