WHEN YOU CALL HIM LORD
The above words are the words of the Lord Jesus Christ. There's something huge to observe in that statement you've just read above; the Lord said "why do you call me Lord, Lord, and you don't do the things which I say?" Waow! That means, to call Him Lord is to be in obedience to Him. So, calling the Lord 'Lord' is not a religious mantra, rather, it's a proclamation that we are in obedience to Him. - Think about it
Let's take a look at that verse from another Bible translation:
'Why do you call Me, Lord, Lord, and do not [practice] what I tell you?' - {AMP}
Take note of the word 'practice'. This shows to us God's mind concerning us - it is God's will for us to practice the Word, and not merely read them. Whatsoever instruction or admonishing we have been giving by the Lord or His Apostles, which are documented in the Bible, which we read, God expects that we practice them in our lives, God wants us to make a practice of the Gospel and not to be mere talkers! - Think about it. This is God's will for the believer in Christ.
'Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.' - Matthew 7 vs 21 {KJV}
Here again, the Lord made it known again, that to call Him Lord is to be in obedience to Him. He said, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven".
My friend, this calls for self examination! Yes you call Him Lord, you sing His praises, and you show a form of worship to Him. But, are you living in obedience to Him? Are you in obedience to His words? Are you submitted to His will and ways? This is the true test of your knowing the Lord!
How do you call Him Lord and not fear Him? How do you call Him Lord and live contrary to His instructions? How do you call Him Lord and are not in submission to His words? Think about it my friend.
So therefore, we understand that, to call Him Lord, is to do what He says! To call Him Lord is to be in obedience to His will! To call Him Lord is to be subscribed to His ways of doing things!
'Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?' - 2 Corinthians 13 vs 5 {KJV}
- Examine yourselves
Examine yourself!
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
