WHAT DID CHRIST SHED HIS BLOOD FOR?

Greetings to you dearly beloved of God in Christ Jesus. Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

As we proceed with this study, it's important that you understand that 'what Christ shed His blood for would be the reason why He came'. In order to know why Christ shed His blood, let's look into the Bible and examine carefully why He came;

'And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.' - Matthew 1 vs 21 {KJV}

  • To save His people from their sins

This was the description of the purpose of the Lord's coming by the Angel of the Lord to Joseph.

'The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.' - John 1 vs 29 {KJV}

  • To take away the sin of the world

The phrase "the sin of the world" is in plural. So it can also read as "the sins of the world".

So we are seeing clearly from the WORD that the reason why the Lord came into the world is to take away man's sins. The Lord spoke about the purpose for His coming into the world;

'For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.' - Luke 19 vs 10 {KJV}

  • to seek and to save that which was lost

What brought man into the state of being lost? Let's see;

'And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins...' - Ephesians 2 vs 1 {KJV}

  • dead in trespasses and sins

'And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses...' - Colossians 2 vs 13 {KJV}

  • you, being dead in your sins

So men became lost (separated from God) because of their sins;

'Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.' - Isaiah 59 vs 1 - 2 {KING JAMES VERSION}

sin is the separating factor!

So, how did the Lord save His people from their sins? How did the Lord take away the sins of the world?

'And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.' - Hebrews 9 vs 22 {KJV}

  • without shedding of blood is no remission

Now, know that the word 'remission' means 'forgiveness'. So, remission of sins means forgiveness of sins; they speak of the same thing.

Without the shedding of blood is no remission of sins. That means, for sins to be atoned for, blood has to be shed. So we see and understand that the Lord shed His blood for a singular purpose, which is to take away sins.

Having known this, you now understand that the blood of Jesus is not for covering things!

            > I cover myself with the blood of Jesus
            > I cover my journey with the blood of Jesus
            > I cover the highway with the blood of Jesus
            > I cover the driver with the blood of Jesus
            > I cover my business with the blood of Jesus
            > I cover my children with the blood of Jesus

The above prayer statements are a manifestation of an ignorant person praying! The blood of Jesus was not shed for the covering of your vehicle! The blood of Jesus was not shed for the dedication of your new house! We have clearly seen that Christ shed His blood for a singular purpose, which is for the remission of sins!

'For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.' - Matthew 26 vs 28 {KJV}

  • My blood shed for the remissions of sins

That's a clear description by the Lord of the purpose for the shedding of His blood. Christ shed His blood for the purpose of the forgiveness of sins. And the moment you believe the Gospel, your sins are forgiven: that means, the Blood has washed you!

'And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.' - 1 Corinthians 6 vs 11 {KJV}

  • but ye are washed

You see...

So, remember I said at the start of this study that, "what Christ shed His blood for would be the reason why He came". Therefore, His shedding of His blood would be for the fulfillment of why He came. So, the Lord Jesus shed His blood to fulfil why He came, which is:

            > To save
            > To take away sins
            > To give life by the forgiveness of sins

These three (3) are the same things. Therefore, any other use of the blood of Jesus by men is a walk in error, and a display of ignorance of the sacrificial work of Christ.

Think on these words carefully, the Lord grant you understanding. Amen.
